Early on in life, my Mom got me reading Dr. Suess and watching Disney.
Together, they helped me dream big and reach for the stars and always challenge myself to become something more.
The phrase that comes to mind is, “You were born for something more.”
While Jiminy Cricket got me wishing upon the stars so that my dreams would come true, Dr. Suess inspired me to get out there, take on the world and make it happen with Oh, the Places You’ll Go.
If you never read it, it’s a classic.
I remember my first day of middle school reminding myself of all the places I would go. Whenever I found myself somewhere new and out of my comfort zone and wondering how to go forward, I would flash back to Oh, the Places You’ll Go.
It was especially poignant when, on the last day of my class, How To Study in College, at Arizona State University, the teacher gave us each a printout of Oh, the Places You’ll Go, as she read this out loud to us. It was her way of saying, you’re ready for the world.
And Dr. Suess had a way of saying, bring it on.

Sometimes, you’ll play games on your own,
But that’s okay, you’re not alone.
Embrace the quiet, face your fears,

So, go out and make the most,
Have fun and conquer any demon or ghost!
Surprise yourself, it’s plain to see,
You can do it, just wait and see!
The world is waiting, ready to see,
What amazing things you’ll do and be!
