If you are looking for a last-minute flight this month or next, you can use promo code SAVE50 to save 50% on round-trip flights with ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines.

This discount is applicable to base fares for round-trip flights only and does not include savings on taxes, fees or any extras (including seat selection and baggage), and is not applicable for Y, B and H fares. Discount requires a seven-day advance purchase.

Deal basics

Airline: Frontier.
Routes: Select routes
across the Frontier network.
How to book: Directly with the airline by using promo code SAVE50.
Travel dates: By May 24.
Book by: 11:59 p.m. EDT April 6.
Blackout dates: Only valid for nonstop and connecting travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays; certain routes excluded.

Sample flights

This sale is valid for most routes within the Frontier network, applicable to the base fare only and excludes all taxes and fees.

For example, this promotion would save you approximately $50 on a round-trip flight from Chicago’s Midway International Airport (MDW) to Miami International Airport (MIA).

FRONTIER AIRLINES

As you can see from the above example, 50% savings were applied to the airfare itself, but you’ll still be charged nearly $150 in taxes and fees.

FRONTIER AIRLINES

Remember that the reflected fare prices are for only the fare itself, so factor in an extra $60 to $65 to bring a full-size carry-on bag and an additional $55 to $60 to add a checked bag to your reservation at the time of booking.

Frontier charges extra for anything more than a personal item that can fit under the seat in front of you. Read more about Frontier baggage fees here.

For context, you could book a nonstop flight for those same days from MDW to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on Southwest Airlines for $158. A cheaper, nonstop flight might be worth the extra 45-minute drive from FLL to Miami.

Bottom line

Though this is an opportunity to save money on a base Frontier fare, you might find a cheaper all-inclusive fare type on other airlines, depending on the route.

Why We Chose It

Sometimes it’s worth a large investment to reap the benefits of a great credit card. That’s exactly the case with the Amex Platinum card. In exchange for the annual fee, you’ll unlock access to the Amex Membership Rewards program that let you access airline and hotel transfer partners, along with new lifestyle and travel credits. This card is also incredibly rewarding for travel purchases, helping you rack up a ton of Membership Rewards points for your next award trip.

Pros

  • The current welcome offer on this card is quite lucrative. TPG values it at $1,600.
  • This card comes with a long list of benefits, including access to Centurion Lounges, complimentary elite status with Hilton and Marriott, at least $500 in assorted annual statement credits and so much more. (Enrollment required for select benefits.)
  • The Amex Platinum comes with access to a premium concierge service that can help you with everything from booking hard-to-get reservations to finding destination guides to help you plan out your next getaway.

Cons

  • The high annual fee is only worth it if you’re taking full advantage of the card’s benefits. Seldom travelers may not get enough value to warrant the cost.
  • Outside of the current welcome bonus, you’re only earning higher rewards on specific airfare and hotel purchases, so it’s not a great card for other spending categories.
  • The annual airline fee statement credit can be complicated to take advantage of compared to the broader travel credits offered by competing premium cards.
